16 November 2016 – The International Concussion and Head Injury Research Foundation (ICHIRF) is pleased to announce that it’s Medical Director, Dr Michael Turner, has been appointed to the External Advisory Board of the University of Washington (UW) Medicine Sports Health and Safety Institute.
The UW Medicine Sports Health and Safety Institute (‘the Institute’) is dedicated to promoting safer sports for athletes of all ages and abilities through advocacy, education and research. The Institute is currently undertaking a number of studies into concussion and brain injuries, including one exploring how young athletes involved in American Football and other contact sports recover from concussion. Dr. Michael Turner is joining Dr Martin Raftery, Chief Medical Officer to World Rugby, on the Institute’s External Advisory Board, and will provide input based on his extensive experience as a Chief Medical Adviser to winter sports and horse racing.
Speaking on his appointment, Dr. Michael Turner commented: “It is a great honour to be asked to join the Board of the UW Medicine Sports Health and Safety Institute. Their reputation in the field of sports concussion is unequalled and Dr Stan Herring, Director of the UW Medicine Sports Health & Safety Institute, is universally admired for his contribution to the Zack Lystedt Laws.
“I am excited by the prospect of working with the Institute and in being able to share with them the ground breaking work we are doing at the International Concussion and Head Injury Research Foundation.”
